There are so many styles of newborn photography and very talented photographers out there. Newborn photos have changed a lot over the years. There are the lifestyle sessions that can take place in your home. The posed sessions that happen in the first week or so of your newborns life with colorful wraps and props. My favorite type of newborn session is an unposed portrait session.
My approach to a newborn session is unposed, but what does that actually mean?
A newborn session at Arabella Design Studio is baby led. Since they are the star of the show they are also in charge. I have a clean and classic approach to newborn portraits, I want your first photos of your child to be timeless. I love to focus on all of the little details… tiny toes, swirls in their hair line, that new baby skin. Things that new parents spend hours each day staring at, and will want to remember forever.
The first thing we do is get you and your family settled into the studio. You will have some time to change and feed your newborn, and get them settled for their session. We start baby in a clean diaper and a nice full tummy. I lay them down onto the warm, cozy bed and let them pose naturally. Some babies settle in easily and some need some comfort so I may swaddle them with a neutral wrap. I will gently move your newborn into different positions and capture different angles. I will shift around them to get the photographs so that we do not disrupt them too much. Sometimes they are sleepy, sometimes they are alert and once in a while I will even capture a sneeze. It’s all gorgeous.
We will work through the session to include siblings, grown ups and the whole family. I will talk with you as I am moving your newborn, as well as posing you and your family… so you always know what is going on. We build in breaks as needed for snuggles, feedings and changes. You are busy… and your time is important to me, you can plan for a newborn session to be an hour and a half.
After our session I will process your photographs and share a sneak peek within a few days of the session. I then create an online gallery for you to view your photos in the comfort of your own home. You can then highlight your favorites, make your final selections, and most importantly create some artwork. A newborn session at Arabella Design Studio will mean your photographs are timeless, and sure to be treasured for years to come.
